WHAT IS AN INSIGHT DASHBOARD?
An Insight Dashboard utilizes data visualizations to display a combination of institutional metrics from a wide variety of sources, such as institutional data from Core Data as well as other Campus Labs applications the institution may use. The example Dashboard below has been created from a combination of Core Data and Beacon data.
A Dashboard can be shared with other Insight users to keep everyone in the institution on the same page. A Dashboard can have multiple views that contain a variety of visualizations designed by a user with Admin or Creator permissions so every department can access the information it needs to better collaborate.
BUILDING A DASHBOARD
The first step in building a dashboard is to choose a layout for a given View. Think of a view as a page in a book, with each view representing different pages and the dashboard the book itself. Insight offers five layout options for a user to choose from. The layout options determine how the screen will be divided. For example, if a user chooses the first layout option a single data visual will take up 100% of the available space of the screen. If the second option is chosen, the available space will be evenly divided between two data visualizations.
POPULATING A VIEW IN A DASHBOARD
Once a user has chosen their preferred layout, they will then populate it with a single or multiple data visualizations. A user may choose from a list of built data visualizations they have already built or build a visualization from scratch within the dashboard area by clicking the "Create a new visualization" button located at the top of the list. The same data visualization may be used multiple times throughout a dashboard, as well as across different dashboards.
It is important to know that a user cannot have more than three rows in a single view for a given Dashboard. This is to keep the dashboard easily digestible to a consumer. If a user attempts to click the "+ Add Row" button and they already have three rows they will not be able to. Additional "Views" can be added by clicking the plus button in the "Views" section.

ADJUSTING A DASHBOARD
Users can easily make adjustments to how a Dashboard is laid out my either moving visuals around on the Dashboard, choosing a different visualization or adding a new row.
- Clicking the up or down arrows will move the row that contains a visualization(s) up or down, as well as from left to right.
- When a user clicks the X button, the visual for the select layout option will be cleared and a new one can be selected. If the user clicks on the trash can button, the given row will be deleted and a new row can be added if the user chooses but will need to selected a new layout option and populate it with new visualizations.
APPLYING A FILTER
When building a Dashboard users has the ability to apply filter logic to the entire Dashboard across its Views. This is helpful to keep in mind when building a visualization. Instead of applying filters to a single visuzation that you may use multiple times over and over, you can simply apply that filter to a given dashboard. For example, if a user needs to supply headcount on multiple dashboards for each school for an institution the user can build a simple headcount visual, then add that visual to each school's own dashboard and filter down the dashboard to that school specifically.
